The fast-moving fire at the township Municipal Authority treatment plant in the 7100 block of River Road, just beneath the Galaxy Towers in Guttenberg, was ignited just before 9 a.m. by a worker using a torch, authorities said.

The blaze went to four alarms and continued to burn before being brought under control by noon.

All hazardous materials were safely stored at the plant and weren’t affected by the fire, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Chief Frank Montagne said.

His firefighters were assisted by colleagues from Hoboken, Bayonne and Kearney, as well as a Jersey City hazardous materials unit.
